Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick Poinsettia 840

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick Poinsettia 840 is the third shade I’m reviewing from the recently released Ultra HD lipsticks. It came out late last year in the US, but it had only been recently made available locally.

I know that HD means high definition, and in foundations that means that HD foundations give you a flawless coverage which looks like real skin in HD films or even photos. But for the lips, I really don’t know what it does for it to be called “Ultra HD lipsticks”. This was actually the reason why I bought these lipsticks, because I am really intrigued. 😉

Emma Stone is wearing HD Gladiolus in the promotional advertisement below. She also wore it to the SAG Awards where she looked really beautiful and her lips red-carpet worthy.

840 Poinsettia

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick in 840 Poinsettia is a vivid, pinkish red with a cool undertone. It has an almost glossy shine which seems to be a bit satiny. This translates to luminous beauty on the lips.

The sweet cherry-like scent is really strong, especially in the tube. Once it’s applied on the lips, it’s not as offensive for me. But if you are very sensitive to, or just plain dislike, strongly scented lipsticks, then this might turn you off.

The Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks have a wax-free gel technology which promises to provide vivid color without being too heavy.

In the arm swatch below, Poinsettia doesn’t appear to be very much cool-toned. It also seems to be really bright here as well. But in reality, it’s not overly bright nor is it neutral or warm.

It is pigmented, alright. With 1 swipe of the lip color, it’s already semi opaque. To get a more opaque color payoff, you might want to do 2 or 3 layer of the lipstick.

As with HD Gladiolus, Poinsettia Ultra HD is also forgiving on my dry lips. It doesn’t accentuate chapped lips, but if you have extremely dry lips then you might still want to exfoliate your lips first just to be sure.

Even though it’s not really hydrating, but it’s not drying on my lips either. Which is much more important to me. I can manage a lipstick that is not moisturizing as long as it doesn’t suck out the moisture from my lips.

Revlon Ultra HD Poinsettia can be worn even by those who have pigmented lips, as it is quite buildable. You could even use it without applying a lip concealer first.

The texture of Revlon Ultra HD lipstick is super creamy and smooth. Poinsettia applies like a dream, with no tugging or dragging at all. However, because of its shape, you might want to apply it using a lip brush and also use a lip liner so the edges will be much more defined. I prefer smudging the edges with a cushion tip or just my finger for a more natural effect.

Revlon Ultra HD lipstick Poinsettia does not appear to be as pink or as cool-toned when worn on my lips, but it’s also not a true red either. In the photos above, I only applied a single layer of the lipstick, and you can see that it has a beautiful sheen. It also feels light on the lips even though it’s very pigmented.

The color clings to my lips just fine, but it does transfer easily. Its longevity is just average and it lasts around 3 to 4 hours on my lips. It leaves only a bit of stain after eating and drinking, which mostly is on the outline of the lips. Thus, reapplication is definitely needed.

I forgot to swatch it side by side with Gladiolus, but I will just do it some time in the future. I’ll probably do a sort of round-up post about these lipsticks, but I’m still not sure.

Lipstick Application Tips

The packaging is simple yet chic with its shiny, silver bullet and clear cap. But because the lipstick itself doesn’t retract all the way, it’s very easy for the lip color to rub and smudge the cap, which will also transfer to the bullet once it’s closed. I wish Revlon will change the packaging of these Ultra HD lipsticks.

These Revlon Ultra HD lipsticks cost Php625, but they are currently being sold at an introductory price of Php575. I bought mine from Revlon in Robinsons Manila.

Which red lipsticks look good on you? Do you prefer warm-toned or cool-toned reds? Have you tried Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick Poinsettia? Did it suit your skintone?
