Maybelline Color Show Pink Punch Lipstick (102) is another Perfect Pink shade from the Color Show Lipsticks collection released last year. I love these Color Show lipsticks because they are so affordable, yet they deliver long-lasting color. Well, at least most of them do. There is 1 or 2 shades that I didn’t like, but most of them are awesome for me. They are not drying, applies easily, and the shades are beautiful.

MAYBELLINE COLOR SHOW PINK PUNCH LIPSTICK
Maybelline Color Show Pink Punch Lipstick is a bright, almost neon medium coral pink with a cream finish. I thought it would be like the pink color of fruit punch, but it isn’t so. It is more like a punch of coral pink than just plain pink. I love that it doesn’t contain any micro shimmers unlike Crushed Candy, but it still has a very pretty satin sheen.
It also has a fruity candy scent and taste like most of the Color Show lipsticks I’ve tried. If I smell it directly in the bullet, the scent is very strong. But once applied on the lips, I barely notice it anymore. However, for those who are sensitive to scent and taste, this may be a bit annoying for them.
In the arm swatch above, you can see how Pink Punch is not overly glossy or shiny. It just has that natural sheen that will be very beautiful once worn on the lips. One swipe of this lipstick delivers semi opaque color. I thought 3 swipes would be enough to get an even and opaque coverage, but that is not the case here. I had to apply 5 swipes to get a more opaque coverage, and even at that, it’s still a little uneven and still not overly opaque.
Those with very pigmented lips might not like Maybelline Pink Punch. Although the lipstick can be built-up for more coverage, as it is not very opaque, some of the natural lip color can still be seen through. But there is still hope, thanks to lip liners, concealers and erasers. 😉
It applies very easily as it is super creamy and smooth. The lipstick glides smoothly across the lips without any tugging. At first, it tends to slide around the lips and looks a bit patchy. But once it sets a few minutes after blotting it with a clean tissue paper, it stays put. It doesn’t bleed nor feather on my lips, but it would be better if a lip liner is used underneath it.
I love that Maybelline Pink Punch lipstick doesn’t settle into lip lines. It is also forgiving on dry lips as it doesn’t accentuate dry and patchy flakes. I would still recommend exfoliating the lips beforehand and moisturizing with a good lip balm for maximum hydration and protection. It isn’t drying on my lips, but is not moisturizing either.
There is still some color left on my lips after light eating and drinking. However, with heavy eating, especially with greasy foods, the lip color will be gone. This lipstick stains, but it’s not even and a bit patchy, so reapplication will be necessary. Pink Punch is slightly long-lasting though, as it wears for well over 5 hours on my lips.
On my lips, it is a very pretty warm-toned, coral pink. Even though it’s creamy, it sets really well and doesn’t slide around my lips. When I wear my Maybelline Color Show lipstick in Pink Punch, I look very young and fresh. 😉 It is a cute and girly lip color that is very wearable. Although, when it is worn full-on, it does seem a bit neon-y, which I don’t like.
Because I love using this lipstick during the day, it doesn’t look good when it’s almost neon. So what I do is apply it normally using the application tips found near the end of this post. Then after applying the 3rd layer, I blot it a few times until the lip color is more muted. This way, it looks like a natural pink color on my lips.
Color and texture comparison swatches from L to R: (photo above)
A – Maybelline Color Show Pink Punch lipstick
B – MAC Flamingo lipstick
C – Maybelline Color Show Crushed Candy lipstick
D – NYX Stella lipstick
I don’t have anything similar to it in my lipstick collection. But as you can see in the comparison swatches above, Maybelline Crushed Candy is more coral and MAC Flamingo is more pink. NYX Stella round lipstick is more cool-toned and has bits of silver micro shimmers.
Maybelline recommends to apply the lipcolor by starting in the center of the upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of the lip, following the contours of the mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip. Pretty much how we directly apply our lipsticks. 🙂
The package looks sturdy enough and is very light because it’s just plastic. It’s just a plain, shiny black plastic casing with a transparent, colored band around the middle which indicates the color group it belongs to. This one has a pink band because it is one of the Perfect Pink shades.
I bought my Maybelline Color Show Pink Punch Lipstick for Php165 from Maybelline in Robinsons Manila. It is a very wearable and office/work-appropriate shade. That is, if you blot it until the brightness and neon effect is gone. But it’s still up to you if you want to mute the lip color. I know some women who like neon-y lipsticks even with a daytime makeup look. 🙂
Do you like wearing neon-y lipsticks during the day? I personally don’t have any qualms with putting on bright lipsticks for daytime use, but am a bit moody when it comes to neon-y lip colors. Sometimes I love it and other times, like these days, I don’t. 😀 Have you tried Maybelline Color Show Pink Punch Lipstick? What are your thoughts on it?
