Maybelline Color Show Cherry On Top Lipstick (203) is yet another one of the Color Show Lipsticks released last year. I couldn’t find this shade in Maybelline New York’s US website, so it seem to have been released only in Asia. Most of these ColorShow lipsticks are great additions to any lipstick addict’s collection. One factor being that they are very affordable. Depending on the shade, most of the colors and textures are awesome.

MAYBELLINE COLOR SHOW CHERRY ON TOP LIPSTICK
Maybelline Color Show Cherry On Top Lipstick is a slightly cool-toned, medium pink red with a shiny finish. It doesn’t have any micro shimmers, but it has a beautiful sheen. As with most of these Color Show lipsticks, it also has a fruity candy scent and taste. I feel that this one is not as strong, though. In any case, it doesn’t bother me at all. Even though I didn’t like its smell and taste before, I’ve now gotten used to it. But for those who are more sensitive to fragrances, this will probably be a negative factor for them.
The arm swatch below shows how really shiny this lip color is, to the point that Cherry On Top looks almost glossy. It is also quite pigmented, as 1 swipe is already semi opaque. To get a more even and opaque coverage, at least 3 swipes would be required.
Maybelline Color Show lipstick in Cherry On Top is a sexy red lip color. However, because it is an in-your-face red, I feel that this would not be an office/work-appropriate shade. If you still want to wear it to the office, though, you might want to wear it sheerly. Just apply 1 swipe, blend with your fingers and blot. Or use it for a gradient lip effect. I love using it with an evening makeup look for a night out in town. It looks very sexy but not cheap-looking.
Its color can be built-up for a more opaque coverage. Even without a lip concealer underneath Cherry On Top lipstick, it would still work on those with pigmented lips. Application is a dream because it has a very creamy and smooth texture. It easily glides across the lips with no tugging or dragging at all. I also didn’t experience it bleeding on me, nor does it feather on my lips. But if you’re prone to feathering, then you might want to use a lip liner with it.
Maybelline Cherry On Top lipstick doesn’t settle into lip lines, and is a bit forgiving on dry lips. It still accentuates dry flakes and patches a little bit, but not as bad as other lipsticks. I still recommended exfoliating the lips well first before application. If you have dry lips, it would also be advisable to apply a good lip balm beforehand for extra hydration. I fee that it is a bit moisturizing on my lips, but what’s important for me is that it’s not drying on me at all.
I couldn’t find the pictures of my lip swatches on my computer, but as soon as I find them, I’ll update this post with those pictures so you can see how lovely this lipstick is on my lips. Cherry On Top is a very pretty and shiny, medium pink red. Even though it’s creamy, it sets really well and doesn’t slide around my lips. I can say that it’s also quite long lasting as it wears for around 5 to 6 hours on my lips.
After eating and drinking, there is still some color left on my lips. Even with greasy foods, it doesn’t erase all the lip color. There’s still a little bit of stain left on the lips. I would still reapply it though, just to make it more even.

Maybelline recommends to apply the lipcolor by starting in the center of the upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of the lip, following the contours of the mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip. Pretty much how we directly apply our lipsticks. 🙂
The package looks sturdy enough and is very light because it’s just plastic. It’s just a plain, shiny black plastic casing with a transparent, colored band around the middle which indicates the color group it belongs to. This one has a red band because it is a red shade.
I bought my Maybelline Color Show Cherry On Top Lipstick for Php165 from Maybelline in Robinsons Manila. It is a great red lipstick if you like glossy and shiny lips. I currently prefer my red lipsticks to be more matte though. My current go-to red lipstick right now is MAC La Vie En Rouge (see the swatch above). But if I feel like wearing a shiny lipstick, then this one is definitely one of my choices.
Do you like shiny red lipsticks? Or do you also prefer them matte? What do you think about Maybelline Color Show Cherry On Top Lipstick?
