MAC Nouvelle Vogue Lipstick is part of MAC’s The Matte Lip collection which had been released just this month. I was a little hesitant to buy Nouvelle Vogue at first because under the store lighting, it looks very similar to MAC Please Me (which I bought that day as well), at least in the tube. But when I swatched them side by side on my arm and I noticed that they are entirely different from one another, well, you know what that means.. sorry, wallet! I was able to justify with myself the need to buy both Please Me and Nouvelle Vogue. Oh, my! 😉

M•A•C THE MATTE LIP COLLECTION
The Matte Lip is here to stay. Create a standout look with the fashion-forward new shades of our iconic matte lipstick. Vibrant hues like fuchsia Velvet Violet and La Vie En Rouge are a bold contrast to the rich burgundy of Fashion Revival and nude of Styled in Sepia. For the best in colour intensity, Pro Longwear Lip Pencils in super-saturated shades to make a modern statement. Go for the cool rouge of Trust in Red or boost it up with new Bespoken For, a dark, creamy plum. For a polished finish, accent with the soft, pinky hues of Pro Longwear Blush – long-lasting colour that’s purely fabulous.
The color on the tube is a medium pink, slightly darker than Please Me. When swatched on my arm (photo below), it is a pigmented, rosy pink with a hint of red and a cool undertone. With no glossy shine nor shimmers, Nouvelle Vogue has a gorgeous satin-matte finish.
Compared to MAC Please Me, Nouvelle Vogue is a tiny bit less drying. Although, the new Chanel Rouge Allure Velvets like La Malicieuse are still better in terms of texture and hydration. For a matte lipstick, Nouvelle Vogue applies like a cream lipstick and glides easily. It does not tug on my lips and does not settle into the lip lines.
As was expected, Nouvelle Vogue feels a little heavy on the lips during the first hour of application. Afterwards though, it melts into my lips and doesn’t feel heavy anymore.
On my lips, MAC Nouvelle Vogue is a slightly cool-toned medium pink that looks casual enough to be worn any day. Because it has a matte finish, it lasts around 4-5 hours before I have to reapply. I don’t reapply it though because even though it’s not very drying, it still is a bit drying, so after about 4 hours of wearing Nouvelle Vogue, I really feel the need to apply a lip balm or a moisturizing lipstick. 😀
Nouvelle Vogue stays put even after eating and drinking, so you don’t have to reapply it. After it fades, it also leaves just a tad bit of stain, but not really enough, and my lips also get really dry if I leave the stain without reapplying another lipstick or lip balm.
Overall, it is a very good lipstick, although not really the best matte lipstick out there. I’m still excited to try out the other MAC lipstick I bought from The Matte Lip collection, La Vie en Rouge. Hopefully it will be even better than Nouvelle Vogue.
I bought Nouvelle Vogue from MAC in Mall of Asia for Php1, 000. I had expected it to be really drying on my lips, but was surprised that it was not so much, it was actually bearable. If you want to buy this shade as well, you might want to call the M•A•C stores near you first, to check if they have it in stock before dropping by. Alternatively, you may also purchase it online from Nordstrom or Macy’s for $16.
