I know that I’m very much late to the party. MAC Girl About Town lipstick had been released years ago. There had been so much hype about this lip color, but it was not at the top of my list during that time.
It was only last year that I’ve been more open to cool-toned lipsticks. Before that, it was all warm-toned colors for me.
But after swatching it again at the counter, I knew that I missed out on something good. It’s a good thing that Girl About Town is permanent, so I was still able to buy it.
MAC describes their LIPSTICKS:
Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M•A•C famous.
MAC GIRL ABOUT TOWN
AMPLIFIED CREME LIPSTICK
MAC describes Girl About Town as a bright blue fuchsia. With an amplified creme finish, you can never go wrong with this shade. Of course, that is if you like blue-based pink lipsticks.
This lipstick is very much cool-toned, so it will tend to lean more purple if you have a warm-toned skin. My skin is warm, with a yellow undertone, so it pulls out more of the blue in Girl About Town. But for those who have a cool undertone, it will probably look more pink on you.
I’m sorry about the sweaty lipstick in the photos. If you want to know how it happened, or would like to avoid it happening on your lipstick too, read my review on MAC Lady Danger.
But hey, the beads of moisture make the lipstick appear fresh. Sort of like an early morning dew, lol!
Color, Texture and Finish
MAC Girl About Town Amplified Creme lipstick is pigmented enough to give full coverage with 3 layers. In the arm swatch above, you can see that 1 swipe of the lipstick is almost semi-opaque. But the color is very much buildable.
Because I have a warm-toned skin, Girl About Town is a purplish fuchsia on me. It pulls more blue, but not too much. It’s not as blue as MAC Heroine, thank goodness! I’m not yet comfortable wearing shades like it.
With Girl About Town, it still looks a bit pink on me. Although it’s not as bright as MAC No Faux Pas or even MAC Viva Glam Miley, it still has a bit of oomph. I guess that’s why this shade is also very popular.
Moisture, Wear and Longevity
Having a very creamy formula, Girl About Town (GAT) lipstick applies like a dream! It doesn’t tug on the lips during application. It just glides and glides, that you need to have a strong willpower in order to stop. Lol!
Seriously, though, I’m very much happy with its formula and texture. Even if I forget to exfoliate my lips, it’s okay, because it doesn’t really accentuate chapped lips. I do, however, still apply a moisturizing lip balm before applying this lipstick on. Just for insurance. 🙂
However, I don’t find GAT to be drying on my lips at all. Well, it doesn’t add any moisture to the lips, but that can be solved by applying a hydrating lip balm either under, on top or both.
Girl About Town feels light on my lips. With its level of pigmentation, it’s able to cover my pigmented lips without any need for a lip concealer.
You can also wear it even without a lip liner, and it would not feather. It doesn’t slide around on the lips as it really sets. It also doesn’t apply patchy nor does it settle into the lines on the lips.
I was surprised at the longevity of MAC Girl About Town! It’s able to last around 5 to 6 hours on my lips. It also leaves an even stain. With some minor eating and drinking, the color stays put. But with heavier eating, especially with greasy foods, some of the color is gone with the food. 😉
It would be a beautiful color for the colder months. But because it’s a bit bright, we have a reason to wear it even during summer.
Wrapping It Up
Girl About Town is a brighter and a more opaque version of Chanel Ina Rouge Coco. It’s darker, and definitely more chic, than NARS Marisa Audacious lipstick. Of all the shades swatched above, Chanel La Romanesque is the darkest.
MAC GAT is similar to MAC No Faux Pas. I forgot to include the latter in my comparison swatches in this review post. But to sum it up, Girl About Town is like the creamier and shinier version of No Faux Pas.
