When I bought Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar Dolly Grape (No. 9), I didn’t know what to expect. I hadn’t been really sure if I would love it or hate it. When I swatched it at the Laneige store, both shades look so cool-toned that I was afraid it wouldn’t work with my warm-toned skin.
But because the shades seem to be very interesting, I still bought it. Also, because the other shade I wanted, Burgundy Love, was out of stock. 🙁
The first two shades I reviewed, No. 2 Red Blossom and No. 5 Daring Darling, both won me over. Although Daring Darling is not as moisturizing as Red Blossom, I really love the color combination and the brightness of the shades.
LANEIGE TWO TONE LIP BAR
Achieve K-Actress’s Two tone lip makeup with the colors and skill of an artist.
To be honest, I didn’t know about ombre or gradation lips until the Koreans made it popular. You will see their K-Pop artists and Korean actresses donning lip colors with a gradient effect.
Now, with the release of these new Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar lipsticks, you’ll be able to have the same gradient lips without any fuss. The new lipstick line promises to help you create the perfect lip color for gradation lips.
LANEIGE TWO TONE LIP BAR
NO. 9 DOLLY GRAPE
Attractive lips with optimal color combination. The optimal color combination contained in one lipstick makes the lips beautiful by expressing attractive Two Tone makeup.
Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar No. 9 Dolly Grape is my least favorite from the three shades I bought from the new lipstick line. Not because it doesn’t look good, but just that it looks so light and subtle on my lips.
The coolness of the shades doesn’t clash with my yellowish skin tone, but I just don’t feel like wearing Dolly Grape this season. As you can see, it’s not a summer-y color. It’s more of a Spring shade, really.
As with both Red Blossom and Daring Darling, it also has a floral scent which is evident in the tube. But you won’t smell nor taste it once applied on the lips.
In the arm swatch above, you can see that the darker shade is really a grape color. Not the shade that we usually use for grapes when we were in grade school. But more like real grapes.
I suddenly remembered the grape garden that my grandfather had when I was younger. I would always try to pick grapes as a bunch, like how they’re sold at supermarkets. I would pick a lot of them and only eat a few, so my grandpa would scold me because I’m letting them go to waste. Lol!
Anyways, back to Dolly Grape, the other shade is a cool-toned pink. It goes really well with the grape shade which looks almost magenta in some lightings.
The pink shade is a bit sheer, but the darker shade is very much pigmented. I haven’t tried to use the grape shade alone, but I bet it would really look good, especially during the autumn months.
Because the light pink shade in Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar Dolly Grape is a bit sheer, I was surprised that it was able to cover my pigmented lips even without using a lip concealer. But if you have very pigmented lips, you might want to use a lip concealer because your natural color might still show through.
The Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar lipsticks have a diagonal cut design, as you can see in the photo above. Thus, you can create natural gradation because of its diagonal cut design. It’s able to remove the color boundaries of the two shades by blurring the harsh line between them.
As I’ve said in my previous reviews, you have to be really careful when handling, swatching or applying these new Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar lipsticks. Because they were formulated to be really moisturizing, they have a softer texture than most regular lipsticks. They also have a slim rectangular shape, so they are a bit fragile. Do handle with care! 😀
Dolly Grape has almost the same moisture factor as Daring Darling. It also doesn’t dry out my lips, but it’s not as moisturizing as Red Blossom. When it comes to moisture, Red Blossom is the clear winner of the three.
Therefore, if you’re going to apply this lipstick, make sure that you have a smooth lip base. You should exfoliate and moisturize the lips well beforehand. Especially because I find that it accentuates dry and flaky patches on the lips.
Nevertheless, I still like this lipstick, even though it only comes third next to Red Blossom and Daring Darling. I’m really glad that the cool-toned pink doesn’t look too harsh on me. I look like a sweet teenager when I have this lipstick on! It hides my age really well, lol!
Laneige Dolly Grape applies smoothly on the lips because it has a very creamy texture. But it doesn’t feather nor does it slide around on my lips. You’ll be surprised how well it sets on the lips.
It’s not as long lasting as Daring Darling which lasts around 5 to 6 hours on my lips. This one only wears for around 3 to 4 hours, and the colors are gone after eating and drinking. It also doesn’t leave any stain on my lips, so reapplication would be necessary.
HOW TO USE

Glide the Lip Bar on your lower lip to let the main color applied inside your lip.
STEP 2: Upper Lip
Turn the Lip Bar upside down and glide it on your upper lip to let the main color applied inside your lip.

The plastic, sliding rectangular packaging is also two-toned. The body is white and the upper part including the cap is silver. The bottom part shows the featured shade of the lipstick and also indicates the shade number.
What I don’t like is the way you push the lip color out from the tube. There is a lever at the body part of the tube which you pull down to reveal the lipstick. To hide it again, you have to push the lever up. I’m not used to this kind of orientation. If only I could invert the settings. I want to push up the lever to reveal the lip color then pull down to hide. Anyways, I’m already starting to get used to it. 🙂
1. Slide “down” the button when you want to push “up” the lip bar
2. Do not slide down the button when it’s covered by the cap
3. Slim, rectangular shape and extra moisturising properties makes the lipstick easy to break. Please slide down the button one level at a time.
4. Be careful not to scratch the lip bar when you put the cap on.
Another precaution is that while you have this lipstick on, T-Ara’s Number 9 song will also play on your mind. (Because the number of Dolly Grape is No. 9.) It still does on me, every single time! Lol! So you’ll know what I’m talking about, here’s their music video:
I bought Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar Dolly Grape for Php1,200 (around $30) from Laneige in Robinsons Manila! Even though it’s not as pretty as the other two I’ve reviewed, it’s still worth looking at. Especially those who like subtle and light shades like these.
These Laneige Two Tone Lip Bar lipsticks are just so pretty on the lips. They can be used for two-tone, ombre or gradation lips. You’ll be able to have perfect two tone lips by using these new lipsticks.
