Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour 635 Expression is one of the nail polishes released as part of the Chanel Rouge Allure Gloss Collection. I love this collection because the nail polishes are so gorgeous as well as the new Rouge Allure Glosses. Three new nail polishes were released: Expression, Exception and Intention. I’ve read in the press release that while most of the glosses are permanent, all three new nail polishes are Limited Edition. 🙁
While I hadn’t bought Exception, I got both Expression and Intention (reviewed here) nail polishes.
Chanel describes Le Vernis:
Classic and trend-defining shades in an exclusive formula that strengthens and moisturizes nails as it delivers high-shine colour. Applies evenly without streaking.
All Chanel nail products are formaldehyde-free, toluene-free and DBP-free.
Chanel classifies Expression as a strawberry red. Having no micro shimmers, it is just a plain, cool-toned red with a creamy texture.
On my nails, Chanel Le Vernis Expression is a true strawberry red. I could paint small dots and I’d have mega antioxidants on my nails! Expression nail polish is blue-based, but in some lightings it appears to be less so. It’s a very good color for the holidays if you like reds.
In terms of application, Chanel Expression is not really that hard to apply. The brush is soft enough that it glides smoothly over my nails. The texture is very creamy and it applies beautifully and evenly without any streaking. However, I did experience some bubbles. Just a few though, but still. Bubbles ruin the entire look of the nail polish and I would prefer not to have any at all. 🙁
2 coats of Expression is already enough to achieve an opaque and even color, but I used 3 coats on my left hand (photos above) and 2 coats on my right hand (photos below) just to see the difference. With just 2 coats, Expression looks less cool-toned, almost close to Chanel Phenix (reviewed here) which is orange-y and warm-toned. With 3 coats, it’s darker in color and almost close to Chanel Rouge Flamboyant.
Chanel Expression has a pretty cream almost gel-like finish. The finish is already a bit shiny, so I didn’t bother applying a top coat over it. I only used Chanel Beaute des Ongles Protective Base Coat before applying Expression to protect my nails. Big mistake!
Chanel Le Vernis Expression takes around 12-15 minutes to dry on my nails. Without a top coat, it easily chips even within a few minutes after application, depending on what you do. I had worked on my computer around 20 minutes after applying it, and it chipped around the edges! Had I used a top coat, it will probably last about 3-4 days on me before it chips around the edges.
Expression is a very pretty blue-based red to add to anyone’s collection. The only thing that I’m not happy about is the fact that it easily chips. I believe that this could easily be remedied by using a top coat over it, so I’m still happy about this purchase.
Chanel Le Vernis in Expression is still available for Php1, 250 at Chanel in Rustans Makati. As it’s a Limited Edition, you might want to buy or order it soon if you’re planning on getting it. Expression is still also available, as of posting, at Nordstrom and Saks for $27.
