Chanel La Romanesque Rouge Allure Velvet

Chanel is not making my life any easier! Now, I have another lip color to choose from everyday. Chanel La Romanesque 50 Rouge Allure Velvet is definitely an everyday lipstick for me. I thought it was going to be a boring color, but it’s not! It can be even bright on my lips when I allow it to be. Although I prefer it to be more subdued and muted for a more natural look.

It is one of 2 Rouge Allure Velvet lipsticks released in the Chanel Spring 2015 Collection Reverie Parisienne, the other being La Petillante which is a Limited Edition. It’s a good thing that this is not limited because I would really want to get another one after I finish up this tube. For me, it is the best lipstick released in this collection.

Chanel Spring 2015 Makeup Collection

Beauty blooms with a captivating colour collection inspired by the springtime gardens of Paris. Vibrant corals lend balance to wistful, satiny shades of pink, creating an enchanting spectrum of shades that range from delicate to deep.

Chanel describes Rouge Allure Velvet:

Elevating matte to a new elegance, this next-generation, non-drying matte lipstick glides on lips with intensely rich, long-wearing colour and a sumptuously soft, velvet matte finish.

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet in La Romanesque is classified as a magenta. It is a muted, cool-toned fuchsia with a velvety matte finish. When swatched on my arm, it looks more red. It also doesn’t appear to be flat out matte because there is a bit of a satin sheen going on. Personally, I don’t like how it smells in the bullet, but it’s alright. Because I don’t really smell nor taste it once applied on the lips.

La Romanesque looks really matte in the bullet, but once applied, it is very creamy and smooth. It glides on the lips easily without any tugging nor dragging. It doesn’t settle into lip lines and doesn’t bleed. As with other matte lipsticks in my collection, it doesn’t feather on my lips. In the lip swatches below, I only applied 1 layer directly to my lips. I did pat it using just my finger to spread the color evenly across the lips.

Chanel La Romanesque Rouge Allure Velvet melts into my lips and feels really lightweight, not at all like a regular matte lipstick. On my lips, it looks more like a plummy magenta than a fuchsia. Because it is cool-toned, it doesn’t make my teeth appear yellowish. It lasts for about 4 to 5 hours on my lips. It’s not hydrating on me, but it’s not drying either. However, when I’ve had it on my lips for more than 5 hours, it does become a little bit drying.

After eating and drinking, especially when I eat fried or greasy foods, I need to reapply La Romanesque. It leaves a stain, but it’s a little uneven not to warrant a fresh layer. It’s fine though, because reapplying La Romanesque is always such a treat. When it is applied fully on my lips, it looks as bright as it does in the arm swatch. Which is not so flattering on me. No, scratch that. I just don’t like it when it looks like a bright magenta on me. It does look pretty like that, but I much prefer it when it looks more muted. Just my personal preference these days. I guess it’s because of the gloomy, sort-of-wintery weather. When the sun comes out again, I’ll probably want it as bright as it can be. 😉

Overall, La Romanesque is a beautiful lipstick. I don’t really think that it’s the perfect lip color for Spring. But for those days when I don’t feel like looking Spring-perfect, then this one is definitely what I’m going to reach for. It also is a great shade for any day when I don’t want to wear a bright lipstick. On days like this, what I do is just apply my lipstick lightly and go for a more stained effect rather than a full-on opaque lip color.

Chanel La Romanesque Rouge Allure Velvet

I bought Chanel Rouge Allure in La Romanesque from Chanel in Rustans Makati for Php1, 650. Although it is not a Limited Edition, if you want to get this shade, you still might want to visit your local Chanel counter soon before they run out of stock. It’s so frustrating having to wait for new stocks to arrive, which could take weeks or even months! Alternatively, you may also purchase it online from Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks for $36.

Did you get Chanel La Romanesque 50 Rouge Allure Velvet, too? Do you like how it looks on your lips?
