Lately, I’ve been very much interested in plum and berry lipsticks, and The Face Shop Black Label Lipstick Lady Wine (437) is one such shade. I fell in love with it after I’ve swatched it at the shop. I was also very much surprised at how creamy it is. The sales person said that these Black Label lipsticks are supposed to be really hydrating, so I was very much curious if they will really be moisturizing on my lips.

THE FACE SHOP BLACK LABEL LIPSTICK
437 LADY WINE
In the lipstick bullet, The Face Shop Black Label Lipstick 437 Lady Wine looks to be a dark berry with lots of micro shimmers. It also has a shiny finish which is very noticeable in the tube. Once swatched on the arm, it is a shiny and shimmery berry red that leans more brown. The silver micro shimmers give it a more glamorous finish.
It is semi-opaque in 1 swipe, but it is very much buildable. With 3 or more swipes, you can achieve a more opaque and even coverage. It also has a very subtle scent and taste that is barely noticeable once applied on the lips.
Those with pigmented lips like me can use Lady Wine even without a lip eraser or concealer because the color can be built-up for a more opaque finish. It glides smoothly over the lips without any tugging or dragging at all. Even with its creamy texture, it doesn’t feather nor bleed on my lips, so I could get away with not having to apply a lip liner anymore.
The Face Shop Black Label lipsticks promises to provide moisture the whole day, and I had been really happy with how my Black Label 116 Flower Pink lipstick delivered on this promise. With Lady Wine, it was neither drying on my lips nor was it moisturizing. But my lips are very much prone to dryness, so it’s not being drying on my lips is already a good thing for me. To think that this has micro shimmers in it, which usually dries out my lips.
Lady Wine Black Label lipstick does not settle into lip lines and feels really smooth and light on my lips. However, it does tend to accentuate dry and flaky patches on the lips, so it would be best to exfoliate the lips beforehand. Other than that, the lipstick applies like a dream because it has a very smooth and creamy texture.
If you have extremely dry lips, I would recommend that you also apply a really moisturizing lip balm a few minutes (around 10 to 20 minutes) before applying the lipstick. Then blot the excess shine from the lip balm so the lip color would really stick to the lips. You could also use a lip liner with this lipstick if you want it to last longer and to have a more even finish.
I only used my camera phone to take the photos above, so I hadn’t been able to capture the high shine of The Face Shop Lady Wine lipstick. But in reality, it is very shiny, and instead of being shimmery on the lips, it has more of a metallic sheen to it. At first, I was kind of thrown aback by its metallic finish. But after using it a few times, I kind of liked it. It was very different from most of my lipsticks. I have a few lipsticks with frosty or shimmery finishes, but this is one of the few with a metallic finish. Also, it’s my first dark lipstick with this kind of finish.
Lady Wine doesn’t slide around on my lips even though it has a creamy texture. However, its longevity is just average as it only lasts around 3 to 4 hours on my lips. After eating and drinking, most of the lip color is gone and only the micro shimmers are left on my lips. It also doesn’t leave any stain at all, so application is really a must.

The Face Shop recommends to use a lip liner before applying Black Label lipstick. I personally don’t think that it’s necessary for me. But if you’re used to using a lip liner, then you might want to apply it beforehand, for a more precise application and added longevity.
The Black Label lipsticks comes in a silver and chrome-like, hard plastic packaging that is almost similar to the Chanel Rouge Coco lipsticks. It looks very chic and trendy. The shade number and expiration date are indicated at the bottom of the tube, but the other characters are all in Korean.
I bought my Black Label Lady Wine 437 lipstick for Php295 from The Face Shop in Robinsons Manila. It’s a really good buy because aside from being very affordable, it delivers on its promise of moisture. It’s also available at Amazon for $7.50.
Do you like lipsticks with dark berry shades? Would you wear it even during spring or even summer? Or do you only like these shades for fall and winter? Do you think that The Face Shop Black Label Lipstick Lady Wine is a yay or nay?
