Highly anticipating the release of NARS Audacious Lipsticks in the Philippines for a few weeks already, I was so glad to hear the other day that they are now available at some NARS outlets in Manila. I immediately went to the NARS store near my place but, sadly, they said that they still don’t have it. 🙁 I guess I’ll just have to go to Rustans Makati because it would probably take a while before they get it here in Rustans Essences Manila.
Tomorrow is the day that I can finally go and check the lipsticks in person, and I’m not sure if I can sleep tonight because I can’t wait! 😀
To rid myself of this anxiety, I rummaged through my lipstick stash trying to find my NARS Schiap. Swatching lipsticks is one of my favorite things to do that relieves me of my stress. I had gone through the same anxiety and restlessness 2 years ago after I had seen Yoon Eun-Hye wearing this hot pink lipstick in the South Korean TV series, Missing You. I just had to have that lipstick, so I searched the internet to find out what hot pink lipstick Eun-Hye was wearing in some of the scenes, and found out that it was NARS Schiap. Since the nearest NARS store was out of Schiap, I had to wait a few days before I am able to buy it from another Nars store in another city.
Deja vu, right?!
As I was looking for Schiap, I just remembered that I already gave it away last year. Awww! Why did I do that? 🙁 Anyways, I dug some more and found my NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita. It had been a while since I’ve used Dolce Vita, so I decided to swatch it. I took it out and opened the cap, only to see that it needs sharpening. Tough luck!
I now wanted to swatch Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita because I really missed using it. So I went through the process of sharpening it (please read on for my tip on how to sharpen your lip/eye pencils), wincing at the wasted product. I really hope NARS would repackage Dolce Vita to a normal bullet-type lipstick.
Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita is a rosy reddish brown with a matte finish. It is a bit sheer with 1 swipe, so I always do 2 or more swipes to really build up the color. Even though it’s matte, it feels creamy and is fairly easy to apply. It glides easily on the lips and doesn’t tug at all.
When it comes to hydration, Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita doesn’t have any moisturizing effect on my lips, but it’s not drying either. I still put on lip balm, though, just to be sure. This step of putting on lip balm under a matte lipstick kind of ruins the matte finish of the lipstick at first, but wait for about 30 minutes or simply blot and reapply your lipstick, and the sheen from the balm will be gone, leaving you with beautiful matte lips that are still protected underneath all that prettiness. 😉
Photo above shows Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita right after applying 2 layers.
After 3 hours, Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Dolce Vita is still pretty on the lips, very matte but not dry and no flaking! (photo above)
I bought it for Php1,450 from Rustans Essences Manila. It’s Permanent so it is still available, and always will be (I hope). 😀
TIP on how to sharpen your lip (or eye) pencils (especially in tropical countries where it’s hot and humid):
• Put your lip pencil in the freezer of your refrigerator for about 15 to 20 minutes.
• Sharpener ready, take the pencil from the freezer.
• With a light hand, using a makeup sharpener like NARS Pencil Sharpener, carefully sharpen your pencil.
• Be careful not to overdo it or you might break the tip of the pencil.
• Clean your sharpener as soon as you finish sharpening the pencil.
