NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo is one of the 40 colors in the NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection released by NARS in celebration of their 20th Anniversary. All the colors are Permanent, so if you want to collect them all, you’ve got plenty of time to do so.

NARS Michiyo is the 8th shade (and probably the last for this year) that I bought from the NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection. The first 7 I bought were Annabella, Brigitte, Juliette, Kelly, Marisa, Raquel and Vera.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo is classified as a shocking pink. In the tube, it is a bright, medium fuschia pink with a cool undertone. You’ll notice that this bullet had been victim to sweating as well, and if you’ve read my NARS Marisa review, you’ll know why and how it happened. Why, oh why, hadn’t it happened after I’ve already taken pictures of the lipsticks? If not for the pictures for this post, though, I really don’t mind these imperfections on my lipsticks, because I could simply wipe it off and they’re good to go. 😉

NARS Michiyo is very pigmented, and is already opaque in just 1 swipe. Even those with pigmented lips (like me) can sport this pink shade without having to use a concealer or lip eraser. It has a creamy texture and a beautiful satin-matte finish. As with all the other NARS Audacious lipsticks I’ve bought, Michiyo has no overbearing scent nor taste.

Being almost buttery-soft and creamy, NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo glides smoothly across my lips without tugging. It doesn’t settle into lip lines and is very forgiving on my dry lips, so unless your lips are super dry, exfoliating it beforehand is not really necessary. Michiyo is not drying on my lips, was even a little bit hydrating, and I didn’t experience any flaking the whole time I was wearing it on my lips.

NARS Michiyo applies evenly on my lips. It can be applied directly from the bullet, but for the outer parts/outline of the lips, it would be better to use a lip brush to avoid mistakes. I didn’t experience any feathering even with its creamy texture, so if you’re also not prone to lipstick bleeding or feathering, you might also be able to get away with no lip liner or primer underneath it. However, as with most lipsticks, it will oxidize on acidic lips, and will turn a darker shade if no lip primer is applied underneath it.

On my lips, NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo is a cool-toned, hot pink. If you want attention to your lips, then Michiyo is definitely for you! 🙂 It feels really light on my lips, like I’m not wearing any lipstick at all. NARS Michiyo lasts a really long time on my lips, I was able to wear it for well over 8 hours before it finally faded into a light stain. Since it has a lot of blue in it, Michiyo would work best on those with pink undertones. I have a warm undertone, but I still love how it looks on my lips.

NARS recommends to pair Michiyo lipstick with the following NARS products:
• Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment in Bianca (Pearl Tint)
• Velvet Lip Liner in Costa Smeralda (Shocking Pink)
• Lip Gloss in Priscilla (Shocking Pink)

Until I removed it using a lip makeup remover, NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo did not budge from my lips. Even after eating and drinking, I didn’t have to reapply. I had grilled pork kalbi, kimchi rice and vegetable salad for dinner, drank lots of water, licked my lips a little too much, chatted on and on, had coffee afterwards, and lo-and-behold, Michiyo was still intact!

If you’re curious about what I do to make my lip color last longer, check out my Application Tips below. Michiyo also leaves a stain that is surprisingly not drying as well. Even after hours and hours of wear time, my lips still looked fresh and felt soft, so I’m really loving NARS Michiyo for all its awesomeness! 😀

Application Tips:

• Apply lip primer like MAC Prep+Prime Lip and wait for it to become tacky, about a minute.
• Apply 1 layer then blot with a tissue, and apply some loose powder like Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder sparingly across the lips using a small brush like MAC 217.
• Apply a second layer and blot again.
• Apply a third layer only on the center parts of the lips so it will appear fuller. Blot ever so lightly.

NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo

Michiyo is now one of my favorite lipsticks, and I’m excited to do a gradient lip effect using it as the bright color! I bought NARS Audacious Lipstick in Michiyo from Rustans Essences in Robinson’s Manila for Php1,650. It is also available at both Nordstrom and Sephora for $32.

I don’t have NARS Schiap in my collection, but it seems to be the closest color to Michiyo. Yu also seems similar but its finish is kind of glossy compared to Michiyo.

Have you tried the NARS Audacious lipsticks? Which shades have you tried and eventually bought? Do you like hot pink lipsticks like NARS Michiyo?

  1. The shade is so pretty on you! You look like an Asian Barbie minus the plastic grin. haha! 🙂 I have a request though, can you try to do a Kylie Jenner lip-plumping effect with Michiyo and see if it works for you? Silly, I know, but I really want to know if it works before purchasing one. (please, please, please) 😀

    • Thanks Sergianne! I’m not sure about looking like an Asian Barbie, though. Lol!

Anyways, I’ll try to look into your request as soon as I can. I’m currently busy preparing for next month’s events, but I’ll try to squeeze that in, if I can. If not, I’ll definitely do it next month. You got me intrigued, especially because I have rather thin lips. So it would be really challenging for me. 😀
