NARS Marisa Audacious Lipstick is one of the 40 colors in the NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection released by NARS in celebration of their 20th Anniversary. There are so many colors to collect, so it’s a good thing that they’re all Permanent.
This is the 7th color that I bought from the NARS Audacious Lipstick Collection. The first 6 I bought were Annabella, Brigitte, Juliette, Kelly, Raquel and Vera. I had been so surprised (in a good way) with the texture of these lipsticks that I couldn’t resist adding yet another one to my stash. Well, I actually bought 2 new ones, but I’ll talk about the other one tomorrow.
Dramatic Depth. Unstoppable Character.
Modern lipstick so shamelessly seductive in touch and texture the sensation is audacious. Unadulterated luxury glides on like satin across skin with single-stroke coverage. A spectrum of 40 shades for unstoppable impact.
Its luxurious, pigment-rich formula glides on intense, full-coverage color in a single stroke. A specially embossed bullet, dressed in a matte-black metallic case, reveals a strikingly sculptural design. Housed in a modern, matte-black metallic case with a magnetic closure.
• One-stroke, full-coverage creamy wear
• Luxurious texture and enriched with ingredients to smooth and nourish lips
NARS Marisa is described as a warm pink. In the bullet, it looks just a little bit warm in some lightings, but really is more like a cool-toned, medium pink that has a hint of plum in it. It looks so beautiful in the bullet, it’s a pity that the beauty is damaged by the lipstick sweating due to being in a tropical country. It had been so hot and humid these past few days that some of my newly-bought lipsticks turn out like this. They were all fine before leaving the store, but sweat like crazy before I even got home. Well, I realized that it’s partly my fault, because I always grab a cup of coffee from Starbucks before going home and lounge around in their Al Fresco area for 15 to 20 minutes, so I guess that’s where the sweating happened because of the humidity lately. 🙁
NARS Marisa has no overbearing scent nor taste, which is a good thing for me as I am quite picky when it comes to how lipsticks smell or taste. In the arm swatch below, you can see that NARS Marisa is already opaque in just 1 swipe. It has no shimmers, but has a lovely satin-matte finish.
When it comes to application, I love how NARS Marisa glides easily on my lips without any tugging. It feels creamy and soft on the lips and doesn’t settle into lip lines at all. Marisa applies evenly and does not feather, so you can get away with no lip liner or lip balm underneath it. In the pictures in this post, I didn’t even exfoliate my lips, but I didn’t experience any flaking nor any chapping. It is not drying on my lips and even feels a bit moisturizing. If you’ve got pigmented lips like mine, though, you might want to line your lips first or apply Marisa precisely to cover your full lips.
On my lips, NARS Marisa is a gorgeous, light to medium pink with a cool undertone that looks casual enough to be worn during the day. It doesn’t feel heavy at all, and it kind of melts into my lips. Because it has a satin matte finish, NARS Marisa lasts around 4 to 5 hours on my lips before it fades. It would look best on those with cool skintones, but it would still work for those with yellowish, olive or neutral skintones, it will just depend on whether you like cool-toned pinks like NARS Marisa on your lips.
NARS recommends to pair Marisa lipstick with the following NARS products:
• Pure Sheer SPF Lip Treatment in Bianca (Pearl Tint)
• Velvet Lip Liner in Costa Smeralda (Shocking Pink)
• Lip Gloss in Super Orgasm (Warm Raspberry)
NARS Marisa, if applied lightly, will fade after eating and drinking. To prolong its wear time, you will need to do the application tips below, or simply skip the steps if you don’t mind reapplying. Because I only applied 1 swipe of it on my lips, after eating and drinking, I’m left with just a little bit of stain, mostly on the outline of my lips only. Without any primer or liner underneath it, Marisa will oxidize on acidic lips, and will turn a darker (but still pretty) shade. I love that NARS Marisa lipstick doesn’t suck the moisture from my lips even after hours of wearing it.
• Apply lip primer like MAC Prep+Prime Lip and wait for it to become tacky, about a minute.
• Apply 1 layer then blot with a tissue, and apply some loose powder like Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder sparingly across the lips using a small brush like MAC 217.
• Apply a second layer and blot again.
• Apply a third layer only on the center parts of the lips so it will appear fuller. Blot ever so lightly.
I bought NARS Marisa Audacious Lipstick from Rustans Essences in Robinson’s Manila for Php1,650. Marisa is a Barneys-exclusive shade, so in the US, it is only available from Barneys. In the UK, it is also exclusive to Selfridges. However, as of this posting, NARS Marisa is out of stock in both shops, so if you’re planning on getting it, you might want to check the availability from time to time.
Do you like matte lipsticks? Do you apply any lip balm or primer so that matte lipsticks will not be too drying on your lips? Have you tried the NARS Audacious lipsticks? How about NARS Marisa?
