Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick (401) is one of the Color Show Lipsticks that had been released earlier this year. The Color Show Lipsticks seem to be only available in Asia because I couldn’t find it in Maybelline New York’s US website. The colors and texture of these Color Show lipsticks are really fabulous. Retailing at such a pretty low price, they are worth every penny.

Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick is a cool-toned, light pinkish plum that leans almost mauve. It has a shimmery satin finish and contains silver micro shimmers that look purple in some lightings.
It looks warmer in the arm swatch below, and seems to be more like a reddish plum. The silver micro shimmers in Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick give it a frosty look. Just 1 swipe of the lipstick gives a semi-opaque color. You can wear it so and it’ll still look good on the lips. But, Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick is quite buildable. If you want a more opaque and full-coverage lipcolor, you may simply apply 2 or more swipes of the lipstick.
Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick looks perfect for all skintones and undertones. As the lipcolor can be built-up for a more opaque finish, those with pigmented lips will be able to wear Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick even without using a lipliner underneath. Without using a liner, I just apply a layer, blot, apply a second layer, blot and then apply a third layer. To avoid color transfers especially on the teeth, I blot again after applying the final layer.
The texture of Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick is very creamy and smooth. Even though it has micro shimmers, it still glides easily on the lips and there is no dragging or tugging at all. I could wear it even without a lip liner underneath and it doesn’t smear nor feather.
Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick really sets, as in it sticks to lips like how most liquid lipsticks do. It does not settle into lip lines, but it does accentuate dry flakes and patches. So it’s very much recommended to exfoliate the lips beforehand. Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick is neither drying nor hydrating on my lips. However, due to the frosty finish it does look a bit dry.
Maybelline recommends to apply the lipcolor by starting in the center of the upper lip. Work from the center to the outer edges of the lip, following the contours of the mouth. Then glide across the entire bottom lip. Pretty much how we directly apply our lipsticks. 🙂
I really love how Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick looks on my lips. It is a very beautiful, medium reddish plum with a frosty finish. I love how its color really clings so I’m not worried so much about it moving around on my lips. Because of this, it lasts really long, around 7 to 8 hours on my lips.
After eating and drinking, the lipstick stays put, but the color is lightened a bit. The stain that is left becomes a lighter color, more like a cool-toned light mauve. But the micro shimmers seem to really stay on the lips. At this stage, however, Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick still isn’t drying on my lips. I was really surprised that it didn’t suck the moisture from my lips. My other Maybelline Color Show Lipstick, Plum Tastic, tends to be a bit drying around the 3rd hour of wear time because of the micro shimmers. So I’m glad that it isn’t the case with Sweet Orchid. 🙂
I bought my Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick for Php145 from Maybelline in Robinsons Department Store, Manila. It was on sale because the regular price is Php165. Maybelline in Robinsons Manila was on sale for the whole December of last year, and I was glad that I was able to buy a few items at discounted prices.
The package looks sturdy enough and is very light because it’s just plastic. But still, it’s not so bad, considering that the price is fairly cheap. Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick smells sort of like candy and the taste is just okay for me. Until recently, I hadn’t been fond of candy-smelling lipsticks, but I guess I’m just getting used to it. However, for those who are more sensitive to taste and smell, this will probably be a challenge for them.
Do you like shimmery lipsticks? Or do you try to stay away from them? I know I used to dislike shimmery lipsticks because they tend to dry up my lips. But with lipsticks like Maybelline Color Show Sweet Orchid Lipstick, I had a change of heart. Have you tried any of the Color Show lipsticks?
