MAC Sparks of Romance Matte Frost Lipstick had been released as part of the MAC Heirloom Mix Holiday 2014 Collection. I hadn’t really intended on buying MAC Sparks of Romance but when I saw how beautiful it was on the lips of the MUA who assisted me, I just couldn’t resist!
What MAC says about their lipsticks:
Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M•A•C famous.
MAC HEIRLOOM MIX COLLECTION
Strike an heir of sophistication this holiday season with royally rich colour that exudes an aristocratic allure. The modern woman mixes up an irreverent take on tradition with this collection of hues that casts the classic cameo in a contemporary, glittering light. A regal, romantic and daring affair, this holiday is all about colour that leaves a legacy.
MAC Sparks of Romance Matte Frost Lipstick is classified as a true red with a matte frost finish. It has chunks of red and blue glitters, and what seemed like gold micro glitters, that are not really noticeable in the bullet if you still haven’t used it. Once used though, the glitters will be hard to miss.
When swatched on my arm, the glitters are more noticeable with just 1 swipe than when I’ve layered it on. Sparks of Romance is a bit shimmery and glittery, but not too much, that it’ll still be very much wearable.
MAC Sparks of Romance is quite pigmented and is already opaque with just 1 swipe, although I still apply 2 to 3 layers. When I’m stressed with work and the people I work with who, however hard I work, still find fault in every little thing I do, I just put this on and everything’s right and happy again. After work, what’s more fun is putting on a little black dress, matching stilettos, add a bit more makeup to conceal the stress, and party all night! 😉
The texture is a bit frosty, but still is fairly easy to apply. MAC Sparks of Romance Matte Frost Lipstick glides easily on the lips and does not tug at all. The glitters don’t feel gritty and are not overbearingly chunky.
• Apply lip primer like MAC Prep+Prime Lip and wait for it to become tacky, about a minute.
• Apply 1 layer then blot with a tissue, and apply some loose powder like Chanel Natural Finish Loose Powder sparingly across the lips using a small brush like MAC 217.
• Apply a second layer and blot again.
• Apply a third layer only on the center parts of the lips so it will appear fuller. Blot ever so lightly.
I love the color of MAC Sparks of Romance Matte Frost Lipstick on my lips which is an almost bright, warm-toned red. Even though it’s a matte and frost lipstick, it doesn’t suck the moisture from my lips and is really long-lasting. Sparks of Romance lasts around 6 to 7 hours on my lips and after eating and drinking, it leaves a nice stain. The stain is a bit drying though, so applying a lip balm at this time will be a great help to the lips. 🙂
I don’t have anything in my makeup collection that is similar to MAC Sparks of Romance Lipstick .

MAC Sparks of Romance Matte Frost Lipstick, being part of the MAC Heirloom Mix Holiday Collection, is Php100 more expensive than regular MAC lipsticks, and I bought it for PhP1,100 from MAC in Mall of Asia. It is also available for $17.50 from both Nordstrom and Macy’s.
