Last Monday, when I was in SM Manila, I saw the Tony Moly shop there and remembered that there’s also an Etude House (another Korean brand) in the mall as well. I wanted to check their products if something will call out to me. But when I checked my watch, it was already past noon and I will be late for work if I didn’t leave the mall already. I know that it will take me at least 10 minutes to browse the shop, so I decided to forego it.
I’m glad that there’s also an Etude House near my place at Robinsons Place Manila. Earlier today, I dropped by their store and saw this poster ad for the Proof 10 Gelquid Liners in their display window. I went in and searched for the eyeliners – it was not hard to spot them because the arrangement of their products is really organized and neat. There were a couple of testers out, so I took a cotton pad and started swatching them on the pad. I didn’t want to swatch them on my arm because it might be hard to erase them, especially since they are waterproof.
The first color that I swatched is Etude House Proof 10 Gelquid Liner BR402 Deep Sand, and I immediately fell in love with it! Deep Sand is something that I can use everyday because it’s an almost golden brown color that will not attract too much attention but will still accentuate the eyes in a natural way. I asked the nearest SA if they have it in stock because I don’t want to be the one to rummage through their neatly arranged boxes of liners. 😉 She checked for me and after a bit of looking at each box and asking her fellow SAs, she told me that they’re out of stock. Oh, well! 🙁
She then pushed me the tester for Etude House Proof 10 Gelquid Liner BK801 Black Hole and I told her that I don’t want yet another black eyeliner because I’ve still got a lot to use up. Not wanting to give up so easily, she swatched GR701 Forest (at least that’s what she said) on her arm and showed it to me. This lady really wants to make a sale! 🙂 I gave in to her persistent sales talk, and even ended up adding a Collagen Mask Sheet because she said that for every Php500 worth of purchase from Etude House, I get a free sample of Pearl Aura Brightening Essence. You know how I love free samples! 😀
Was I deceived or what? I swatched GR701 when I got home and it is not the same color that was shown to me in the store. I think what the SA swatched on her arm was BK801 Black Hole which looks to be a beautiful silvery gray with shimmers. 🙁 This is what happens when I trust someone else to swatch products for me. As I am not one to return products, and I’m not even sure that they will accept returns, I tried to forget about the other color that she swatched for me. Instead, I started looking for things to love about the one that I got.
Etude House Proof 10 Gelquid Liner in GR701 Forest is a very dark forest green with shimmers. Its color is almost like Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof eyeliner in 60 Celadon, except that Celadon has no shimmers and it’s a pencil liner.
What Etude House says about it:
Gelquid is gel + liquid. It is waterproof liner for power eyes, with fixation and sustaining power, it creates a protective shield. No smearing from water and sweat, powerful eyes fixed!
It makes powerful eyes with the new gelquid formula. Creamy texture and strong color formation. Vivid color expression. Dries quickly without tightening, smudging or clumping, but with long lasting effect. With Hyper Coating polymers, Proof 10 Gelquid Liner offers a strong hold that guarantees water, tear and smudge-proof color.
Gelquid Liner is very easy to use with its precise brush tip. I just needed to shake it for about 4 to 5 times. Then draw the line starting from the center of the eye to the outer corner, and from the center again to the inner corner of the eye. I do a little wing after drawing the line, but I still haven’t perfected my winged/cat eye as you can see in the photos below. However, I was able to draw a precise line and didn’t have to fix it, which is my usual problem with liquid eyeliners. The texture feels creamy, too, and it didn’t tug on my eyes. 🙂
GR701 dried quickly, so I then tried to rub it off gently and it didn’t smudge at all. Nice! Gelquid texture means it combines the exquisite touch of the liquid with rich colors of gel. I believe that the liquid in the formula helps the eye liner to adhere to my skin because pure gel liners always tend to smudge on me, like the Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner.
The color of GR701 is not really unique, but its intense color makes the eyes appear deeper and more vivid. This Gelquid Liner lives up to its promise of being waterproof. I have only tested it indoors in an air-conditioned environment, so I have yet to see its powers of resisting the Philippines’ hot and humid weather. But, as I’ve tested today, it is really long-lasting. Below are photos of what it looks after 10 hours of wear.
I bought it for Php498 from Etude House in Robinsons Manila and I think that Etude House Proof 10 Gelquid Liner GR701 is a great value for my money. Two thumbs up!
