Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet 49 La Petillante is the only Limited Edition Rouge Allure Velvet lipstick released in the Chanel Spring 2015 Collection Reverie Parisienne. The other Rouge Allure Velvet released in the collection, La Romanesque, had just been repromoted and is not a Limited Edition. I also bought La Romanesque and will be reviewing it next week.
Today, I’m going to tell you more about La Petillante. It seems like a replacement lipstick for my La Malicieuse Rouge Allure Velvet which broke on me weeks ago. Because it was a Limited Edition lipstick, I couldn’t buy another one to replace it with. Until this one got released, that is! When I swatched it at the counter, I immediately saw it’s similarity to La Malicieuse. It’s a better one, too, because it’s not drying on my lips as La Malicieuse was.
Chanel Spring 2015 Makeup Collection
Beauty blooms with a captivating colour collection inspired by the springtime gardens of Paris. Vibrant corals lend balance to wistful, satiny shades of pink, creating an enchanting spectrum of shades that range from delicate to deep.
Chanel describes Rouge Allure Velvet:
Elevating matte to a new elegance, this next-generation, non-drying matte lipstick glides on lips with intensely rich, long-wearing colour and a sumptuously soft, velvet matte finish.
Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet
49 LA PETILLANTE
Chanel La Petillante is classified as a coral red. In the bullet, it is a medium coral red that looks very matte. It is warm-toned and has a bit of a pink tinge to it. What I love about the Rouge Allure Velvets is their beautiful finish. Though, some of them especially the first releases like La Ravissante, were too drying on my lips. This one didn’t disappoint and also has that lovely satin, velvety-matte finish.
In the arm swatch below, you can see how pigmented it is. With 1 swipe, it’s already semi-opaque. It’s quite buildable, though. To get a more even and opaque full-coverage finish, it has to be layered on. With 3 swipes, it is very much opaque on me.
Even though La Petillante looks pretty matte in the bullet, it is very smooth and creamy when applied. It glides on the lips without any tugging. It also doesn’t settle into lip lines. However, I find that it’s a bit unforgiving on dry lips. It does accentuate my lips’ dryness and flakiness. Exfoliating the lips beforehand is highly recommended. Applying a good lip balm prior to application will also be a great insurance for those with dry lips. Just remember to blot the excess oil from the balm before applying the lipstick. As with other red lipsticks, it should be applied carefully. However, it doesn’t bleed nor feather. It sets really well and stays put.
Unlike a regular matte lipstick, Chanel La Petillante melts into my lips and feels really light. On my lips, it looks more red than coral. I love that it doesn’t make my teeth appear yellowish despite its warm undertone. It is neither drying nor hydrating on my lips. It also leaves a nice stain. However, after eating and drinking, it becomes kind of patchy on me. So I really need to reapply it for the lip color to be even again. I don’t mind reapplying it though. I would prefer reapplying my lipstick as long as it doesn’t dry out my lips.
The closest shades I have in my collection are Chanel La Malicieuse and MAC La Vie En Rouge. La Malicieuse is drying, though. Aside from the fact that it is broken. 🙁 MAC La Vie En Rouge, on the other hand, is a bit brighter than this one. This one lasts very long on my lips, especially without eating and drinking. It lasts around 7 to 8 hours.

Overall, La Petillante is a great lipstick. I hope it doesn’t break from the tube when Summer comes. I am now a bit paranoid with Rouge Allure Velvets after my La Malicieuse kind of melted and broke away from the packaging. I will find a way to fix it once I find the time. Or, I can just mix it with a hydrating lip balm and transform it into a Rouge Allure. Lol!
I bought Chanel Rouge Allure in La Petillante from Chanel in Rustans Makati for Php1, 650. If you want to buy this shade, you might want to visit your local Chanel counter soon as this is a Limited Edition. Alternatively, you may also purchase it online from Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue for $35.
