Chanel Ina Rouge Coco Lipstick (450) is one of the deep plum shades in the newly Reformulated Chanel Rouge Coco Collection. The plum shades were named after the artists that inspired Coco Chanel.
Rouge Coco Ina is the second shade that I’m reviewing from the collection. The first shade I’ve reviewed is the star shade of the collection, Arthur. You can find the detailed review for it here. In a nutshell, I have been so in love with Arthur ever since I first tried it on. It is like a more pigmented version of Rouge Coco Shine.
Because the original Rouge Coco lipsticks were drying on my lips (most of them were), I was so psyched when I heard months ago that the line will be reformulated. Some of the online community were not so happy with the brand’s move because they hadn’t experienced the same drying factor as some of us had. Now that they have been released as “Ultra Hydrating Lip Colour“, I am so glad that Chanel made it happen. Because the new formula is one that I really love. At least, with the ones I’ve tried so far.

CHANEL INA ROUGE COCO LIPSTICK
Chanel Rouge Coco in Ina is more of a cool-toned, medium fuchsia pink than a plum. It has purple micro shimmers which makes it look like a shimmery plum. It has a luminous sheen as well, giving that beautiful shiny and shimmery finish. It also has the signature Chanel floral scent which I love and don’t mind at all. Once applied on the lips, the scent is not as noticeable anymore and there is no annoying taste.
In the arm swatch below, you can see how Rouge Coco Ina is really a slightly bright, fuchsia pink. Once the purple shimmers catch the light, only then does it become plum in color. I only lightly swatched it on my arm, so 1 swipe is still a bit sheer. But it is very buildable, and 3 or more swipes will give a more opaque coverage. Here, I had to swipe it 5 times because I only used a light hand. But once applied on the lips, 3 swipes is already opaque.
Chanel Ina lipstick is a fun lip color. Even though the base pink color is only slightly bright, because of the micro shimmers it becomes brighter and more luminous. Not really shining, shimmering splendidness, but it’s still pretty much shimmery and gorgeous. I would wear it more for evenings out. Paired with a very simple eye makeup and light pink cheeks, the star of the night would be the shimmery Ina lips. 😉
Because its color can be built up for more coverage, Chanel Ina Rouge Coco even those with pigmented lips like me can wear it even without applying a lip eraser or concealer beforehand. The lipstick glides smoothly and easily across the lips with no tugging or dragging. It’s also a bit forgiving on my dry lips. Even when I don’t exfoliate my lips before application, it doesn’t accentuate the dryness and flakiness of the lips. However, because it has shimmers in it, I would recommend for you to still exfoliate the lips beforehand, especially if you have extremely dry lips.
I don’t apply a moisturizing lip balm underneath Chanel Ina Rouge Coco lipstick because the weather these days is not too cold nor dry. But I feel that during colder months, I would need additional moisture from a lip balm because this does have micro shimmers that might be a tad drying on the lips. But these days, I can get away with no lip balm underneath because Ina is not drying on my lips. However, it’s not moisturizing either. It also doesn’t bleed nor feather, and feels really light on my lips.
In the photos above, Chanel Ina is a very gorgeous plummy pink on my lips. I’m not able to capture it’s entire beauty in the photos, but in reality, it is extremely beautiful, shimmery and luminous. It sets really well and lasts around 5 to 6 hours on my lips. It’s also very easy to remove using a good lip makeup remover, and no annoying micro shimmers are left on the lips. After eating and drinking, there is a bit of color left on my lips, but not enough that I really have to reapply it.
The package is still the same as the old Chanel Rouge Coco lipsticks which is very sleek and classy with its shiny black and gold case, gold band in the middle (when closed) and the Chanel double C logo at the top of the cap. The shade name and number can be found at the bottom of the lipstick case.
Overall, Chanel Rouge Coco Ina is a really good lipstick. I bought it for $36 and it’s now available at both Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus. If you order from Nordstrom, you’ll even get 3 free samples with your purchase.
