Best Red Lipsticks 2014

I have been buying red lipsticks every now and then, but it had only been recently that I had grown to love them. So, in the past weeks, I’ve been buying more red lipsticks than I could really finish. It’s just like the advertising pitch for Pringles, Once you pop, you can’t stop! Seriously! I should stop myself from popping in makeup stores to check out red lipsticks because I’m already happy with the current red lipsticks in my makeup stash.

Best Red Lipsticks 2014

Anyways, I want to share with you my 5 Best Red Lipsticks that I’ve bought this year.

NARS ANNABELLA AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK
NARS Audacious Lipsticks Collection
Permanent Edition

NARS Annabella lipstick

NARS Annabella is classified as a poppy red. It is a classic, sexy red that makes the teeth appear whiter. NARS Annabella is very pigmented and is already opaque in just 1 swipe. It has a beautiful satin-matte finish and its texture is creamy smooth and is a bit moisturizing.

NARS Annabella doesn’t feel slippery but glides easily on the lips and applies evenly. It does not settle into lip lines nor does it aggravate the condition of dry, flaky lips.

The initial satin sheen is gone after a few hours and NARS Annabella becomes more matte, but is still not drying. Annabella stays for a whopping 7 to 8 hours, and leaves a nice stain.

MAC LA VIE EN ROUGE (MATTE) LIPSTICK
MAC The Matte Lip Collection
Limited Edition

MAC La Vie En Rouge lipstick

MAC La Vie En Rouge lipstick is classified as a bright orange coral. It is a medium coral red that is bright, but not as orange as MAC Lady Danger. MAC La Vie En Rouge lipstick is very pigmented and is already opaque in 1 swipe, but is brighter with 2 or more swipes. It has a satin-matte finish and is not drying on the lips.

MAC La Vie En Rouge applies like a cream lipstick and glides easily. It does not drag on the lips and does not settle into lip lines. Exfoliating the lips beforehand is advised because it accentuates dry flakes on the lips a little bit.

MAC La Vie En Rouge feels really light on the lips and doesn’t feather or bleed. It lasts around 4 to 5 hours, stains the lips and the stain sticks around for another hour or so.

MAC Salon Rouge (Matte) Lipstick
MAC Heirloom Mix Collection
Limited Edition

MAC Salon Rouge Lipstick

MAC Salon Rouge Lipstick is classified as a clean berry red with a matte finish. It is a cool-toned, medium dark red which would work well with all skintones. MAC Salon Rouge Lipstick is pretty much pigmented and is already opaque with just 1 swipe, although applying 2 to 3 layers will help make it last longer. It has a velvety matte finish and the texture is smooth and not drying on the lips.

MAC Salon Rouge lipstick glides easily on the lips and does not tug at all. It applies evenly across the lips and does not settle into lip lines. Using a lip liner before applying MAC Salon Rouge is recommended for those prone to feathering.

MAC Salon Rouge doesn’t suck the moisture from the lips and is really long-lasting. It lasts around 7 to 8 hours and leaves a very nice stain that is still not overly drying.

NARS VERA AUDACIOUS LIPSTICK
NARS Audacious Lipsticks Collection
Permanent Edition

NARS Vera lipstick

NARS Vera lipstick is classified as a bright raspberry. It is a cool-toned, dark raspberry red with a hint of magenta. It makes the teeth appear whiter because of its cool undertone. NARS Vera is extremely pigmented and one swipe is all it takes to have full-coverage, opaque color. It has a beautiful satin finish and the texture is creamy and smooth.

NARS Vera glides easily without dragging on the lips when applying and doesn’t settle into lip lines. It isn’t moisturizing, but is not drying either. NARS Vera can be used even without applying a lip balm first as it doesn’t aggravate the dryness of the lips.

The initial satin sheen is gone after a few hours and NARS Vera becomes more matte, but is still not drying. It stays on the lips for a good 6 to 7 hours and leaves a really pretty stain.

CHANEL La Flamboyante Rouge Allure Velvet
Chanel Holiday 2014 Collection
Plumes Precieuses de Chanel
Limited Edition

Chanel La Flamboyante lipstick

Chanel La Flamboyante lipstick is classified as a bright orange red. It is more red than orange, and although it has a warm undertone, it is not that apparent at first glance. Chanel La Flamboyante has a beautiful satin, velvety-matte finish and its texture is very creamy and smooth.

Chanel La Flamboyante glides on the lips without any tugging and does not accentuate dry flakes. It should be applied carefully and over lined lips to avoid feathering. Despite having a warm undertone, Chanel La Flamboyante doesn’t make the teeth appear yellowish.

Chanel La Flamboyante melts into the lips and feels really light, not at all like a regular matte lipstick. It is not drying on the lips and is even a little bit hydrating. It lasts only for about 3 to 4 hours on the lips and leaves a little stain.

Best Red Lipsticks 2014

I don’t have a favorite out of all these 5 because they’re all really HOLY GRAILiciously awesome for me. I love that both NARS Annabella and NARS Vera are part of the permanent line. For the other 3 that are Limited Edition lipsticks, I hope that they’ll be repromoted again soon so I can buy more of them. 😉

Do you like red lipsticks? How many are in your makeup collection? What are your best red lipsticks this year?

  1. Love your blog =) And my favourite red lippy is Chanel Rouge Allure #104 Passion. Stunning on the lips!

    • Thanks Evie! I don’t have Passion because when it was first released, I didn’t like how it swatched on my arm. But I might have a different opinion now that I’m loving red lipsticks so much. I’m not sure though if my local counter still has it. If they still do, I might swatch it again. But these days, my favorite red lipstick is Chanel Arthur Rouge Coco. You can read here why I love it.
